Project Description
Libreville, Gabon's capital, lies on the Atlantic Ocean and is the political, economic and cultural centre of the country. There is a bus service with an obsolete fleet of five lines - but no timetable – which cannot possibly cater for the mobility needs of approximately 500,000 residents. In addition, the ever increasing private transport hinders buses substantially.
The delivery of new buses, the outcome of a political process of discussion, is a chance to improve the public transport on offer in Libreville, raising it, at least, to an acceptable level.
The consortium SDGP was awarded the contract for, in addition to the delivery of the buses, the maintenance of the fleet as well as the conceptual planning and assisting operations. VCDB was commissioned with the implementation of the latter.
VCDB's Scope of Services
- Analysis of public transport services, the demand for public transport, the spatial structure and the traffic-related, organisational and infra-structural conditions
- Measurement of possible travelling speeds, systematic assessment of road conditions
- Theoretical conception of necessary transport
- Development of a bus network pragmatically taking into account the existing framework
- Creation of a catalogue of infrastructural measures with cost estimates for proposed construction work
- Formulation of recommendations for bus operations with regards to framework requirements (e.g. depot planning)
- Tender preparation (traffic planning principles, vehicle tracking, ticket system, radio communication system, maintenance)
