Project Description
The tram is the backbone of public transport in the southern Australian city of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria. The broad network (249 km) is operated with 494 vehicles.
For the renewal of the fleet, the acquisition of a larger number of modern low-floor light rail vehicles was expected. In order for these vehicles to be used optimally, investment in workshops and parking facilities was necessary - the resources were neither technically nor regarding the length of track available in sufficient quantities.
For this task a team from the operating company 'Yarra Trams' along with the Department of Transport of Victoria worked on a workshop development concept. This workshop program was to be confirmed by a higher-level steering committee.
